These jumping, hopping four legged friends may end up hurting themselves and others if they are not restrained properly during the travel times. They may even end up causing accidents by distracting the driver. Now days, these things are getting a legal turn as governments are enforcing laws for pet safety. This positive step aids in bringing more awareness about travel safety of pets.

Why should we harness pets in cars?

To ensure pet safety in cars, pet parents must use crates or harness to limit their pet’s movement. For long distance journey, crates and carriers are perfect while for short trips a good quality harness serves the purpose.

Reasons for keeping the pets restrained in car:

No distraction: Our cuddling, playful pet may end up in diverting the driver’s attention. His constant movement may disturb the driver. This is unadvisable as it may end up in accidents. Thus, to keep the driver more focused and relaxed, it is important to restrain the pet.

No injuries: If the pet is left lose in the car, there are more chances of injury. He may roll over due to sudden turns and brakes. This may result in unexpected injuries. In addition, his notorious and anxious behavior may hurt the rest of the people in the car.

No accidents: When you give limited access to the pet by keeping a leash or restrain, there are fewer chances of any accidents due to the pet. This way, the journey becomes comfortable for all. He is also saved from unwelcome injuries and you bid good-bye to sudden distractions and pangs.

Car safety tips for pets:

Crates for long distances: Long journeys are the times when your pet needs a comfortable place. His crate is perfect choice for this. The crate or carrier should be well ventilated to make your pooch or pussy comfortable during the journey.

Use safety harness: For shorter trips, use safety harness that holds the pet in the back seat of the car. Choose a harness that well fits your pet and attach it to the car’s seatbelt. Please do not use child’s safety seat for the pet even if it is the size of your pet.

Keep the windows closed: Your dog may like to explore the place by keeping his head out of the window. This is not permissible as dirt and debris from the wind may damage his eyes. For a safer side, you may leave the window open by just a few inches. This will give him fresh air and keep him safe as well.

Micro chipping the pet: To avoid any unpleasant incidences of losing pets on the trip, it is always important to get them micro chipped. These chips help in locating your pet so, for safer side just put identity markers on your pet while you travel.

With all these things well in place, you can rest assured that your pet is safe and the journey is enjoyable.

For more- http://www.canadapetcare.com

Pet safety is one of the major concerns while driving our pups and pussies in the vehicle.
