Question<\/strong><\/h1>\n

I just got these kittens about 2 weeks ago. They seem to have been treated for tapeworms but I found a roundworm on our kitchen floor a day ago. I dont have the money to go to the vet but I was wondering if you had a generic brand of revolution, or if you could tell me a single treatment for fleas and worms. Thanks.<\/p>\n

Vet Answer:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Unfortunately, there isn\u2019t any generic product equivalent to Revolution, but there are treatments for fleas and internal parasites which are non prescription. For example, for fleas you can use Advantage, Advantage II or Frontline Plus. The kitten needs to be at least 8 weeks old if you use one of these products. For internal parasites you can use Popantel or Felex Paste, the treatment for internal parasites should be repeated after 2 weeks.<\/p>\n

Question<\/strong><\/h1>\n

I was wondering if there is a tablet for cats for fleas?<\/p>\n

Vet Answer:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Yes, there are tablets available for flea prevention for cats. The product is called Capstar. Please see below for some information about this product:<\/p>\n

Capstar is indicated for the treatment of fleas on dogs and cats.<\/p>\n

Dosage and administration<\/em><\/p>\n

Capstar tablets are administered orally at a minimum recommended dose of 1mg\/2.2lbs<\/p>\n

Capstar tablets should be given orally, either directly into the mouth or mixed into a small portion of food and given immediately. Administer on any day when fleas are seen on the animal. No more than one treatment should be given per day.<\/p>\n

Contra-indications<\/em><\/p>\n

None.<\/p>\n

Special precautions for use<\/em><\/p>\n

Do not use on animals less than 4 weeks old or weighing less than 2.2lbs<\/p>\n

Further information<\/em><\/p>\n

Effects on fleas may be seen as soon as 15 minutes after administration. Between 95% and 100% efficiency is observed within the first 6 hours and 100% efficiency is reached within 24 hours.<\/p>\n

To help prevent re-infestation, the additional use of a suitable treatment to control immature stages of the flea life cycle in the environment is recommended.<\/p>\n

Nitenpyram is neither embryotoxic nor teratogenic. It can be given to animals at all stages of pregnancy or lactation.<\/p>\n

Question<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Poncho is 19 months old and his weight is 10.3 lbs and I want to buy Advantage. I am not sure which one to buy small dog pack or medium dogs pack?<\/p>\n

If your dog has few fleas, I recommend to use small dogs and if lot of fleas, go with medium size. It applies to all pack size.<\/p>\n

My dog has seizures, and has been diagnosed with Epilepsy. They have gotten increasingly worse, more frequent and lasting longer. I need to know which drugs are effective. She is taking Zonisimide, compounded for dogs. The Phenobarbital she had been on has caused some liver damage. Please tell what other treatments are available.<\/p>\n

The epilepsy treatment has side effects on the liver but to prevent this problem you should administer liver protection at all times. A good medication to provide protection to the liver would be one that contains the active ingredient, Silymarin.<\/p>\n

My Ethel is 12 years old. She is perfect when she walks but when she plays with my kids or runs, she is facing a problem in her left knee. What should I do to remove this pain?<\/p>\n

I would recommend you to use Rimadyl or Previcox as we have seen good result with these treatment. Also provide sufficient vitamins with glucosamine. If the problem remains after a month, consult your Vet.<\/p>\n
