Every dog owner wants to ensure that his pet is free from fleas and ticks. The reason for that is there are lots of flea and tick-borne diseases that can have a major impact on the health of your furry pal. Wouldn’t it be convenient to just give your pooch a tasty chew on a monthly basis or three monthly basis to protect them from these pesky parasites? There are three oral flea and tick preventative products that are highly effective in getting rid of these pesky parasites from dogs: Nexgard, Bravecto and Simparica.

This is a beef flavored monthly chew that effectively works against fleas and ticks on dogs and puppies from age of 8 weeks on a strict condition that they should weigh at least 2 kgs. It has an active ingredient Afoxolaner that kills the fleas through neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that works on pre and post blocking the synaptic transfer of ions across cell membranes to kill them.

It also kills the ticks at faster rate for a full long month. It also cures your pet from Lyme disease that is very dangerous which is specifically caused by black legged ticks.

This is one such preventive which has two options of application to choose from. The easy-going for the pets is chewable while for food fussy pets; spot-on is a top choice. The product is manufactured under the guidance of Merck Animal Health and is FDA approved. It is a secure shield to protect from fleas and ticks for straight 12 weeks from the day of application.

Both chewable and spot-on have an active ingredient fluralaner, which is solely responsible for killing and controlling flea infestations namely Black-legged ticks, Brown dog tick, American dog tick, and lone star tick. This product also prevents multiple stages of flea lifecycle, controlling all common intestinal parasites including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, and heartworm as well.

Simparica is a monthly chewable that is effective against various ticks namely Ixodes scapularis (black-legged “deer” tick), Amblyomma americanum (Lone Star tick), Amblyomma maculatum (Gulf Coast tick), Dermacentor variabilis (American dog tick), and Rhipicephalus sanguineus (brown dog tick). It easily kills adult fleas, and treats and prevents flea infestations.

This flavored chewable has Sarolaner as its active ingredient which is responsible for complete protection. You can give this to your pet all-round the year to keep him well protected.

How The Preventatives Work?

All the three preventatives come in the form of soft chews which are a delight for fussy eaters. Once the dog eats the chews, the ingredients present in the treatments circulate in the blood when the pesky parasites bite the doggy. When the pooch is exposed to chemicals, it dies. The ingredients present in these oral treatments attack the nervous system of the fleas and ticks resulting in the death of the insect. All the three treatments work by destroying the insects’ nervous system.
