Top 7 SPECIAL DOG AND CAT HOLIDAYS FOUNDED BY COLLEEN PAIGE

If you are a dog or a cat lover, here are 7 special holidays by the pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige that you must celebrate.

1. National Dog Day: Life With Dogs = A Better Life

National Dog Day was accepted as a remarkable holiday by New York State legislation in 2013. Founded in 2004, National Dog Day is celebrated on August 26th every year as this was the date when Colleen’s family adopted her first dog.

The dog was named “Sheltie” and was adopted from an animal shelter when she was just 10 years old. NDD was accepted by New York State legislation in 2013.

The goal of NDD is to raise awareness about the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, as well as to honor family dogs and working dogs who serve tirelessly for security, law enforcement, the disabled, and human safety by sniffing out drugs and bombs. Furthermore, now they’re also detecting cancer, seizures, and the corona virus! NDD intends to encourage bringing an abandoned pet into your heart and home.

2. National Cat Day: A Purrfect Day

Observed every October 29th, National Cat Day was established by Paige to appreciate all the love they bring by melting our hearts with their attitudes and actions.

It conveys that cats may not show much interest in your life, but their very world revolves just around you and that they make excellent furry companions.

3. National Puppy Day: Puppies Are The Purest Form Of Love

National Puppy Day was founded in 2006. March 23rd, NPD, is considered an international holiday now, as it has trended worldwide on Twitter every year since 2012.

It is an excellent time to indulge in the cuteness of your beloved puppy or to bring home your own little fur ball of happiness!

4. National Black Dog Day : Black Is The New Love

Celebrated every October 1st, National Black Dog Day is all about embracing all our dogs with black fur.  On this day, people are encouraged to adopt a cute, cuddly black colored dog.

National-Black-Dog-Day

National Black Dog Day was founded to increase the acceptance of black colored dogs by the public, as they are the ones that are least likely to be adopted as people believe that black pets are bad omens and messengers of rotten luck. Colleen believes that black dogs are as amazing, charming, lovable and stunning as any other colored dog and that they can be equally good companions.

5. National Pet Day: Upgrade Your Life

Established in 2006, April 11th is assigned as National Pet Day. The observance of this day encourages helping the orphaned pets in the shelter homes to improve their health and enhance their opportunity for adoption.

It aims to raise public awareness about the suffering of various kinds of animals waiting for a forever home in shelters all around the world and to celebrate the joy dogs bring in our lives.

6. National Mutt Day: Mixed Breed, Pure Love

National Mixed Breed Day, also known as National Mutt Day, is a day dedicated to loving and honoring mutts (mixed breed dogs). It is celebrated both on July 31st and December 2nd to raise awareness of the plight of the mixed breed.

Mixed breeds are often abandoned due to constant over-breeding and public demand for designer dogs and pure-bred puppies, which are sold to pet retailers by puppy mills that frequently create sick and neglected animals. Therefore, Colleen established National Mutt Day to encourage people to bring a mixed breed into their lives and to give them the best life that they deserve.

7. National Walk Your Dog Week: 7 Days to a Healthier Dog

The first week of October is the National Walk Your Dog Week. It was founded in 2010 to raise awareness of the growing problem of canine behavior and obesity in the United States.
