How Does Simparica Trio For Dogs Work?

Simparica Trio contains sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel as the active ingredients. After administration, the chew releases these active ingredients into the dog's bloodstream. The formula is distributed to tissue fluids under the dog's skin. As soon as parasites take the blood meal from the treated dog, they ingest the formula.

Sarolaner obstructs the neuromuscular activity, leading to death in insects. It treats and prevents flea infestations and treats and controls tick infestations. Moxidectin interferes with parasites' neurotransmission, resulting in paralysis and death, thus providing protection from heartworm disease. Pyrantel acts as a depolarizing, neuromuscular-blocking agent in exposed parasites. This causes paralysis and death or expulsion of the organisms, thus treating and controlling roundworms and hookworms.

Laboratory studies suggest that a single dose of Simparica Trio is 100% effective in preventing the development of heartworm disease. According to a lab study, the chews began killing fleas at four hours and started killing black-legged ticks within eight hours. It provided 100% flea efficacy at eight hours after administration and reduced the number of live ticks by more than 94% within 24 hours of infestation.
