How Does Advantage Multi Flea & Worm Treatment for Cats Work?
Advantage Multi (Advocate) for Cats contains two active ingredients, imidacloprid and moxidectin. After application, the formula spreads across the cat's skin. Imidacloprid works topically by spreading through the lipid layer of the cat's skin and coat, killing adult fleas on contact. It also helps control environmental flea larvae by shedding with the pet's skin and fur into the surroundings.
Moxidectin works systemically. It is absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream and tissues, where it eliminates worms and mites. With regular monthly administration, the treatment reaches a steady state in the cat's system, providing continuous protection.Advocate kills fleas quickly and stops re-infesting fleas from feeding within 3–5 minutes. Adult fleas are killed within one hour of administration, while flea larvae are eliminated to help control infestations in the cat's environment.
How to Use Advantage Multi (Advocate) Broad-Spectrum Treatment?
- Weigh your cat to select the suitable dosage.
- Take the applicator tube out of the pack. Hold the tube upright and pull off the cap.
- Reverse the cap and push it back on the tube.
- Twist the cap to break the seal and remove the cap after breaking the seal.
- If the cat is wearing a Seresto collar, do not remove the collar. Remove any other collar before application and replace it when the application area is dry.
- For easy application, the cat should be in a standing position. Part the fur between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible.
- Place the tip of the applicator tube on the skin and squeeze the tube twice, applying the solution directly onto the skin.
- The treatment remains effective after shampooing, swimming, or exposure to rain. If washing your cat between treatments, use a soap-free shampoo.
- For ongoing flea prevention, treat all cats living in the same environment every month with Advocate.
- For heartworm prevention, treat cats one month before the first exposure to mosquitoes.

Advantage Multi (Advocate) for Cats is for external use on kittens and cats only. Do not administer it orally. It is not indicated for use in dogs or humans. Keep this topical product out of the reach of children, uninformed people and pets. Do not allow children or anyone to come in contact with the application site until the area is dry.
Use with caution in sick, debilitated or underweight cats. Avoid contact of the product with the cat’s eyes or mouth. The safety of this product has not been established in pregnant or lactating cats.
Before administration, test your cat for existing heartworm infections and treat infected cats to remove adult heartworms as per veterinary recommendations.

Why do I still see fleas on my cat after using Advocate?
An active flea infestation only comprises about 5% adult fleas; the remaining 95% exists in the environment as eggs, larvae and pupae. A single flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day. Advocate kills adult fleas when they come into contact with the treated cat and also eliminates flea larvae in the cat's environment. Due to the long flea lifecycle, it may take time to completely eliminate the infestation. Environmental flea control such as washing bedding and vacuuming is recommended for best results.
