Ivermectin.
Nuheart heartworm preventive contains ivermectin as its active ingredient. After administration, ivermectin is absorbed in the dog's bloodstream to work systemically. It targets the immature heartworms and eliminates tissue larval stages of heartworms within 30 days of infection, thus preventing their development into adult worms.

Nuheart is not effective against adult heartworms (Dirofilaria immitis). It is indicated to have your dog checked for existing heartworms before commencing treatment with this heartworm preventive. If your dog is infected, consult a veterinarian for the appropriate course of treatment.
This oral treatment is not indicated for use in puppies younger than 6 weeks of age. Keep these tablets out of reach of children and pets.
Nuheart is a monthly oral tablet designed to prevent heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis in puppies and dogs from 6 weeks of age. When used regularly, it protects dogs from potentially fatal heartworm disease.
This heartworm preventive is suitable for use in puppies and dogs from 6 weeks of age. There is no minimum weight requirement for Nuheart. Just ensure you use the appropriate dosage based on your dog's weight.
Before beginning to use Nuheart heartworm preventive on your dog, have your dog checked for existing heartworms. Consider your dog's age and weight when choosing an appropriate dosage. If your dog has a history of drug sensitivity or a chronic illness, discuss with your vet.
This heartworm preventive should be administered once every month, preferably on the same day each month, throughout the year.
These monthly tablets help prevent heartworm disease caused by Dirofilaria immitis by eliminating the tissue larval stage of heartworms.
If the vomiting occurs shortly after administration, give another tablet.
If your dog does not take the tablet as a whole, you can mix it with their food, ensuring the dog takes the complete dose.
Nuheart can be dissolved in a small amount (5-10 ml) of water or other fluids.
If you miss a dose by not more than 7 days, immediately administer the tablet and continue with the regular monthly schedule. When a dose is missed by more than 7 days, consult a veterinarian.
