How Do NexGard Chews Kill Fleas & Ticks?

NexGard Chews contain afoxolaner as the active ingredient, which is a part of the isoxazoline family. After administration, the active component (afoxolaner) is absorbed into the dog's bloodstream. When fleas and/or ticks bite the treated dog, they ingest this compound. The formula causes hyperexcitation in fleas and ticks and overstimulates their nervous system, resulting in paralysis and death of these parasites.

These chews start killing fleas four hours after your dog ingests them. NexGard provides more than 99% efficacy at eight hours and delivers high efficacy against adult fleas 24 hours after flea infestation. According to laboratory studies, this flea & tick treatment provided more than 90% effectiveness against various tick species at 72 hours after tick infestations.

• You can begin your dog's treatment with NexGard at any time of the year.
• Administer NexGard orally as a single dose, once every month.
• It can be given with or without food. When giving food, you should make sure your dog takes the complete dose. If you suspect that the dog has not taken the complete dose or if the dog vomits within two hours of dosing, give another full dose.
• If you miss a dose, administer one dose as soon as you recall dosing and resume with monthly dosing.
• To reduce the possibility of fleas reinfesting your dog, treat all the pets in your household for fleas with a vet-recommended treatment.
• For continuous, year-round protection, you should continue the treatment the entire year without interruption.
