Capstar is not for use in humans. You should keep these tablets out of reach of children, pets, and uninformed people. How soon does Capstar provide relief to my dog?
Capstar provides fast relief by beginning to kill fleas within 30 minutes. According to studies referred to in the label, it showed more than 90% efficacy against adult fleas within 4 hours.
Can I use Capstar as a flea preventive?
You may use Capstar daily or as required to help treat and control an existing flea infestation. You should use a regular long-term flea treatment for optimum flea control.
Is it safe to use Capstar on both my dog and cat?
Capstar is recommended for active flea infestations on puppies and kittens from four weeks of age with at least two pounds of body weight. There are two formulations available for dogs and cats: Capstar Tablets for Cats and Small Dogs (2-25 lbs) and Capstar Tablets for Large Dogs (25.1-125 lbs).
How frequently should I use Capstar on my pet?
One dose of Capstar tablet should kill the adult fleas on your pet. If your pet is re-infested with fleas, you can administer another dose as often as once per day.
Why is my dog scratching after using Capstar?
After administering Capstar, the active ingredient, nitenpyram, causes hyperactivity in fleas just before killing them. This may cause your dog to scratch, which may subside as soon as fleas are killed.
Why do I still see fleas on my dog after giving Capstar?
Capstar has been shown to kill more than 90% of adult fleas within four hours on dogs and will continue to kill them for 24 hours. After this period, you will need a long-term preventive. Also, about 95% of the flea population includes the immature fleas (eggs, larvae & pupae) in your pet's environment. This means your pet is continuously exposed to flea infestations until you eliminate the environmental infestation. To achieve this, you should treat all pets in the household and wash your pet's bedding and other flea-prone areas in the home.
