Afoxolaner
It is a chewable tablet used to treat infestations with fleas and ticks, as well as demodectic and sarcoptic mange (skin infestations caused by two different types of mites) in dogs. It may be used as part of the management of flea allergy dermatitis (an allergic reaction to flea bites).
Treatments should not be combined unless a medical expert has specifically instructed you to do so. Although both of these treatments can be administered safely in some circumstances but you should only combine treatments if your veterinarian specifically advices you to do so.
After the use by, best before, or expiry date, a treatment should not be used. If used according to the label instructions, including the use by date, the flea treatment is guaranteed to be safe and effective. After this time, the treatment's safety and effectiveness may be compromised, and it may have an impact on your pet's health.
Nexgard's active ingredient, afoxolaner, is an ectoparasiticide. This means it destroys parasites like fleas, ticks, and mites that dwell on or in the skin or fur of the animals. Fleas and ticks must cling to the dog's skin and begin feeding on his blood in order for the active chemical to work. Afoxolaner kills parasites by forcing their nervous systems to overstimulate. It prevents the normal flow of charged chloride ions (ions) into and out of nerve cells, particularly those connected with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical that transmits messages between nerves (neurotransmitter). Fleas, ticks, and mites are paralysed and die as a result of this unregulated nervous system activity. Afoxolaner removes fleas before they can produce eggs, which helps to keep the environment clean for the dogs.
Nexgard dog flea and tick treatment is administered as a tablet with the proper strength for the dog's weight. It kills fleas in 8 hours and ticks in 48 hours. After administration, it remains effective against fleas for at least five weeks and against ticks for up to one month.
According to the majority of customer reviews, for many pet parents, Nexgard has been the go-to product. It's also worth noting that veterinarians all across the world recommend this popular dog flea and tick treatment.
Keep away from children and animals. Nexgard (afoxolaner) is for use in dogs only. The most frequently reported adverse reactions include vomiting, itching, lethargy, diarrhea, and lack of appetite. The safety has not been evaluated for pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs. Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders.
You could use both if you wanted to, as these two products work in different ways and do not have any harmful interactions. But, using both would be unnecessary - they both cover fleas and ticks. So it’s better to ask your veterinarian as he/she can suggest you the best solution according your pet health and your lifestyle.
